Exporting Tag Reads from the Reader

The H450 handheld reader from Alien is a very versatile reader, and can be used to make quick inventory scans for tagged assets. In the article for Setting up the H450 Reader, we covered how to save tag reads into a .txt file on the H450 device itself. However, many customers' applications require that the data be exported to another device for additional processing.

Email

Once the tag data is saved to the H450 device, the data can be conveniently sent and received from the device using email. Simply open the device's File Manager app and long press the file you wish to share, and select the "Share" icon at the bottom the screen. Select the "Email" option and enter the email address to which the data needs to be sent. The user will need to setup an email account on the device and connect to a WiFi network in order to send and receive emails.

Bluetooth

The H450 reader can also send tag data via a Bluetooth connection. To do this, setup the Bluetooth connection by launching the device's Settings app and opening the Bluetooth menu. Tap the device's Bluetooth name (will be something similar to ANDROID BT) to make the device discoverable. Follow the instructions on your PC for setting up a new Bluetooth device and pair with the H450. Once paired, tag data can be send from the reader to the PC.

On the PC, open the Bluetooth connection option for receiving a file. For instructions on doing this, see the link here.

On the reader, open the File Manager app and long-press the file you wish to send. Select the "Share" icon at the bottom of the screen and select "Bluetooth". Select the Bluetooth name of the PC and send the file.

The PC should then receive the file and show the message below. Once the file arrives, save it to a known location on the PC.

USB File Transfer

The tag data files can be transferred directly from the reader to a PC via a USB connection. Steps for doing this can be found in the article for Installing Firmware for the Alien H450 Handheld Reader. The steps in the article show how to transfer a file from a PC to the reader, and these same steps are required for transferring files in the other direction.
